In Pittsburgh, at the TOONSEUM, they're having an Comic Art Show called "SUPERHEROES : ICONS & ORIGINS". Basically it's an Art Gallery showing of Vintage Comic Book Art. Now, it was going to end on July 31st but now they have been extended it through August 21st. For more information, click HERE!
The LEGO Toy Company and Warner Brothers have recently announced that they will be teaming up to bring LEGO SUPER HEROES to life! With the popularity of the BATMAN toy line they have decided to bring all the other DC Comics characters to the fold. But don't hit your local toy store tonight, these are set to have a release date of January 2012.
The new LEGO DC Universe SUPER HEROES collection will feature 13 iconic Super Heroes in LEGO mini-figure form, including: Batman, Robin, Catwoman, The Joker, The Riddler, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Bane, Bruce Wayne, Superman, Lex Luthor and Wonder Woman. Buildable characters will include Batman, The Joker and Green Lantern ( shown up above ). Be sure to check out the promo video down below featuring Batman, it's pretty cool!
As a side note: LEGO has plans to kick off a promotion that will take place from August to December in 2011 in advance of the launch. Fans are encouraged to use their collectible minifigures and existing LEGO collections to create original LEGO DC Universe SUPER HEROES adventures through video, photography or illustration, then share their submissions on www.LEGOSUPERHEROES.com. Entrants have a chance to win monthly prizes or a grand prize trip to California for exclusive tours of Warner Bros. Studios, WB Animation and LEGOLAND® California.
About 2 months ago, here at the Bat-Blog, we reported about the next new Batman PEZ that would be a part of the DC Comics' JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA Set. Back then we had a "prototype photo" & as it turns out it looks pretty much like the actual item. So, up above are some pictures of the real deal and we also get to see the PEZ Display-Box Header Card. There are three to collect: Superman, Green Lantern, & Batman! If these are not in your stores already they will be soon so please be sure to keep an eye out. I think these are pretty cool!

The picture up above shows the 3 different Batman Towels they are offering ( The 1st one is my favorite ). There are also a couple with Superman graphics but who cares about him, ha ha! Here's a Video Interview with Comic Book Artist Tim Sale on Superman and Batman. He's probably most known for his work on BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN Graphic Novel. It's a short video but pretty nice, check it out!
OK, This week's "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday" is gonna get really really weird, ha! First off we have a very nice piece of art sent in to us by our friend Gary. It's an image of one of the strangest Super-Villains in Comic Book history, COMPOSITE SUPERMAN! This weird character has developed sort of a cult following over the years & keeps making appearances from time to time. Basically, his costume is half-Batman and half-Superman. I don't know, I've always thought it looks pretty cool! If ya wanna learn more about this guy then just click HERE, it's pretty interesting stuff. Also, a special "THANKS!" goes out to Gary for sharing his awesome artwork with us, good job!
Next up, the Bat-Blog is mostly known for being a place where Serious Batman Toy Collectors show-up. The history of merchandise for the Caped Crusader is vast & we love all the cool vintage stuff that's been made over the years. One area of collecting that I have always loved are the Mego Dolls from the 1970's. In this wallpaper I used a simple clean photo of THE RIDDLER Figure. Go ahead, try it as a background, you'll like it, ha!
OK, I know that this is really not "Batman -Related News" but I'm a HUGE FAN of the Christopher Reeve SUPERMAN Movies from the 1970's, so, here we go! HOT TOYS has just released a teaser photo of one of their next major figures they're going to release. It's the SUPERMAN THE MOVIE Figure, a Classic Christopher Reeve version! The pic doesn't show his face, but knowing this Toy Company, it's gonna be awesome! Now, let's just hope they do every single character in the film, "KNEEL DOWN TO ZOD!"
Down below is an awesome Vintage 1960's Toy TV Commercial for the 1966 BATMAN AND SUPERMAN SPARKLE PAINTS Play Set made by Kenner Toys! It also includes an advertisement for another Kenner's Product, the See-A-Show! Now, up above I've included a reference photo of a different Kenner SPARKLE PAINT SET. This one featured just Batman. These babies are extremely RARE to find now a days because, back in the day, kids totally destroyed them, ha! I wish I had one of these because I totally love the vintage graphics on the original boxes.
Just a quick post to let everybody know about a brand-new Batman Toy to keep an eye out for in the future. DC Comics & PEZ CANDY Inc. have teamed-up to create the JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA PEZ. This special PEZ Candy Dispenser Set will feature a bust of each character. So far they have announced Batman, Superman, & Green Lantern. But I'm guessing they will also be making other Superheroes as well ( Let's hope ). I mean, Hey! Where's Wonder Woman? Up above is a prototype photo. Yes! BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD has returned and the 1st new episode, titled “The Battle of the Superheroes!”, will air tonight on Friday, March 25th, on the Cartoon Network! It comes on around 6:30 pm, check your local listings. The Basic Plot: The Man of Steel and the Caped Crusader do battle after Superman is infected with red kryptonite. Batman must find a way to turn Superman back to his old self because he is going to need all the help he can get when Lex Luthor unleashes his latest scheme on Metropolis. Now, the cool thing about this episode is that the Art Direction gives the characters a wonderful "Retro 1950's" look! Plus, it features Superman, Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, The Bottled City of Kandor, & much more!
Just the other day I got an email from a Bat-Blog Reader asking me about a Batman Promo Glass he found at a Garage Sale. He sent a photo of it and as soon as I saw it I knew what it was. I mean, I totally remembered these from my childhood in the 70's. It's a glass from the 1976 DC Comics Superhero Pepsi Series. If I remember right, they were a promotion at Burger King, the Fast Food Restaurant ( or was it Arby's? ). But either way here's a photo that shows the complete set of 6 glasses ( Click on the pic for a larger sharper version ). OK Rob, you now need to find Robin, Superman, Wonder Woman, Shazam, and the Flash!
Even Superheroes & Villains need love...
Picture Window Books ( a division of Capstone Publishing ) just released a brand-new series of Children Books called DC SUPER-PETS. The Illustrator for these are none other than Art Baltazar. You might recognize his name from the successful TINY TITANS comic books. The basic concept for this new series is that they tell stories about the adventures of SUPER-PETS who are owned by some of your favorite DC Comics Superheroes: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, & Green Lantern. Their names are Ace the Bat-Hound, Krypto the Super-Dog, Streaky the Super-Cat, Beppo the Super-Monkey, and Jumpa the Super-Kangaroo.
Now, to celebrate the launch of this new series, Picture Window Books is sponsoring a writing contest for students in grades 1-3. Children enter the "My Pet is Super" contest by writing an article for an imaginary newspaper, The Daily Planet, about why their own pet is super! Art Baltazar will create an illustration of the winning Super-Pet that will appear in a future book in the DC Super-Pets series. The winning student will receive the original art as well as copies of the book. Authors of the top 50 entries in the contest will also win free books. OK, Since the Bat-Blog is ALL about the Dark Knight I'm just posting photos of the Batman-related statues, Batman and Catwoman. But before I get ahead of myself, here's the deal. For 2011 DC Direct is coming out with a huge set of statues to celebrate the entire DC UNIVERSE ONLINE Video Game world. They measure approx. 7 1/2" tall & are cold-cast porcelain. They're also based on the comic book art of Jim Lee. So far there are 10 statues planned to be released in small waves during 2011 but I think they will add even more once the video game becomes very popular. Who are the characters made so far? You have Batman, Catwoman, Black Canary, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Solomon Grundy, Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, and Zatanna! More News from TOY FAIR 2010: OK, you know the toy company named FUNKO? They make those awesome Wacky Wobbler Nodders. I really love those things. Well, now they have another division in their company that makes cute Character Plush Dolls ( or Plushes ). They're doing the Wizard of OZ, Alice in Wonderland, & the Justice League of America! To get things started here are Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern, & Superman. Now this totally makes me wonder since they finally ( finally! ) got the right to do DC Comics comic book characters then maybe, just maybe, they might start to make a few Funko Bobblehead Nodders. That would be so awesome!!
In Japan there is a company called SKULL-CANDY who makes these very cool Audio Earphone Sets for your Mp3 Players, mainly the Apple iPod . Here are 2 they made with a Batman & Superman Theme. The neat thing is that I think they come with a set of Vinyl Figures too! Sorry, Not really sure. The Japan-based website I found these on was totally Japanese & I could NOT read a thing, ha ha! But either way these look like a lot of fun. As you can see, the ear-pieces have a set of snap-on "Bat-Logo" covers. But I gotta say that I totally love the vinyl figures way more!
