Well, it looks like Famed Pop Artist Christopher Franchi has done it again! He has just released a brand new Art Print that celebrates the 45th Anniversary of the 1966 BATMAN TV SHOW. The details are amazing & it features: Batman ( Adam West ), Robin the Boy Wonder ( Burt Ward ), The Joker ( Cesar Romero ), Catwoman ( Lee Merriwether ), The Penguin ( Burgess Meredith ), The Riddler ( Frank Gorshin ), and even the Classic George Barris Custom 1966 Batmobile Car! Awhile back, right here on the Bat-Blog, we featured some amazing artwork by an Artist named Christopher Franchi. He did this piece that combined a classic iconic image of Batman and Robin, by Carmine Infantino, & he recreated it in the drawing style of Golden Age Comic Book Artist Dick Sprang. I mean, if you're familiar with both of these Artists you can see the combination and it's an extremely awesome image. Well, Chris got it licensed by DC Comics & now it's a Limited Edition Fine Art Print ( only 75 will be made, so, very limited ). It's pretty BIG, measuring about 24" X 36" and is printed on a sturdy, high quality, card stock. It is also signed by the Artist. One of the things I love about collecting Batman stuff is that over the last 40+ years they have made a TON of merchandise that you can hunt down. So, you can never "have it all" or, in other words, you can collect it forever! It's sort of the main inspiration for me creating the Bat-Blog. Then, speaking of this site one thing I really love is connecting with other Bat-Collectors. I always like seeing other people's stuff, what they have & how it's displayed.
Shown here are a few photos of "Ryan's Batcave". as you can see he has some extremely awesome Batman Toys, Action Figures, Collector Plates, Statues, Framed Art Prints, Posters, etc... even a 1989 BATMAN MOVIE Video Game Vending Machine ( my favorite piece! ). Well, I really like the "Animated Series" Collector Plates too. Ryan seems to have focused a lot on the items from the WB Store. We used to have one here where I live & I really miss it. I noticed a story the other day over at COMICS ALLIANCE that sort of broke my heart a little bit. It appears that Moose Baumann, an extremely talented comic book colorist, is being plagued with having to deal with his Wife's Cancer Treatment ( We hope she is feeling better soon ). You see, most Comic Book Artists are pretty much "freelance" or self-employed. Many don't have proper Health Insurance. So, to help deal with the bills Moose Baumann is offering "Superhero Art Prints" to help raise money. The prints are 13" x 19" and printed on archival paper. They're some of the many comic book covers ( and inside artwork ) that he has colored. Now, We have only posted a few as examples here but there are more variations on Batman and Robin. There are also some images of Green Lantern, Superman, The Flash, Iron Man, etc... Here's a LINK to check it out!! Oh yeah, the prints are only $20 so while you're there buy 3 or 4, thanks.
One of my favorite things about the internet is getting to meet new people from all around the world. It's so cool how you can just spark a casual conversation with somebody, anywhere! Like here, I recently met this guy named Grant Hunter. He's an Artist & Illustrator living in Newcastle, Australia. His artwork is really great! It looks sort of child-like and very abstract. It's also slightly Gothic looking too. Well, I'm sorry, it's really kind of hard for me to describe but if you look at it you'll get the idea. It's some very cool stuff!! Shown up above are some crazy-groovy art prints made by a Graphic Designer named Dan Bru. He really loves unusual pieces of pop culture from the 1960's & 70's especially Old Toys, Horror Movies, Vintage TV Shows, Tin Robots, etc...just about anything "retro". So you know he has to do a few pieces of art that are about the 1966 Batman TV Show! Let's take a look at them. The 1st one is kinda weird, but in a good way. It's a parody of the graphics from an old Vintage Poster for the '66 Batman Movie. Adam West is shown wearing RED tights which is pretty groovy because that's how he looked on some foreign movie posters. The next 2 are an homage to the famous 1966 LIFE Magazine Cover featuring Adam West. The 1st one is pretty straight-forward & looks just like the original, very cool. The 2nd one shows different color variations & looks very much like Pop Art done by Andy Warhol. Everybody who knows me personally knows that I am a total Andy Warhol Fan. So when my friend Jeffery sent me this pic of a cool poster with "Warhol AND Batman" I was pretty happy, ha ha. This is an extremely RARE Art Gallery Poster for an exhibit of Warhol's artwork in Torino, Italy. The event happened in 1989 & the actual graphic is a large painting that the Artist did in the 1960's. I love that they chose his "Batman Logo" painting for this. It was an early piece where he was still trying to be a little bit like an Abstract Expressionist. It's a famous piece of art that you really don't get to see very often. Awesome! Thanks Jeffery!
